I originally wrote this as a comment to a prior entry, but it’s worthy of an entry of its own.

My friend told me today about her boyfriend who had a job interview with a company, where one of the questions the interviewers asked him was, “Are you an honest person?”

He answered along the lines of, “That’s a pointless question. If I were a dishonest person, do you think I would tell you that? Of course not, I would lie and say I am honest. And on the other hand if I were on honest person, of course I would say the same thing. So your question is irrelevant.” I think they liked that answer. I certainly would, if I were interviewing someone. In fact, I’d ask that question specifically to see if any of the candidates were sharp enough to answer along those lines.

From an e-mail I wrote:

Is this the problem you are having? I’ve had it ever since I’ve installed Firefox, but whenever I mention it to anyone they have no idea what I’m talking about and apparently don’t experience it:

Firefox problem: Sometimes I’ll put my mouse into a textarea or a textbox and start typing, but instead of entering text into the text area, it starts searching for what I type within the page. I can re-click inside the text field as many times as I want and try to type some more, but Firefox always jumps to text-search mode. Even when I have turned off the “find as you type” search, Firefox ignores my textbox input in those instances. I find that the fix is, when this is happening, to minimize and then restore/maximize Firefox, which causes the problem to go away for that window as I can then type into text boxes.

Anyway, if that’s the problem you’re having, that’s also the workaround for it. It doesn’t happen that often, now, but when it does it’s irritating since the behavior is randomly different and doesn’t seem to be connected to anything logical, on the surface.

I saw someone within a list of invitees with an odd name. “Rhombus”, that is. Now what kind of a name is that?

Here’s my reply to the e-mail:

Thanks for organizing everything, Tony/Tina. Tiny/Tona. Hah. What I’d like to know, personally, is who is named Rhombus. In fact I’m looking forward to meeting him/her, because I know (s)he’s no square!
