Here's the entrance to the hotel we stayed at, the Harbor View International House. It's run by the YMCA (you can see the bottom of the 'A' painted down the side of the building in red) but other than that was a decent, respectable hotel. I got lost once (okay, I got lost several times actually) and having that big logo painted on the side of the building is how I found the way back.
A magnified version where you can see the name of the hotel (just in case you thought I was lying).
Some pretty flowers and a fountain, this is a rare open space in Hong Kong.
I like the way this sign is worded, in the infinitive tense. Rather than "(Thou shalt not) pick the flowers" it's "(There shall be) no picking of flowers". Rather than a commandment, it's a decree.
Looking out from a public walkway over the street. You can get from any one point to another in large areas of HK without having to come down to ground level between the two points, using the networks of these bridges and walking through the buildings between them.
Our amateur photographer spies an interesting flower. These are hard to take (the focus is difficult) but when they come out sharply the detail is quite stunning.
There are a many of these crummy high rise apartment buildings scattered all around Hong Kong; this is where most people live. Of course there are nice (and expensive) apartment complexes too, but as far as the rundown ones go, the buildings in this picture certainly don't represent the worst of them.
Here's a shot of the city at night, taken from that same bridge again.
